Back to health

After having been ill for the past weeks, both Elias and Nathan have regained a number of hit points. Sufficient to allow them back to school and kindergarten, respectively.

Elias went down last Friday, throwing up in his bed at night. He developed a fever on Sunday evening, and slept through most of the following days (when he was not watching Toy Story, that is). His appetite, which has been on the meagre side since he started attending school, took a firm hit. Yet since yesterday, he is back to his old (sometimes stubborn) self, playing happily in the garden, trying not to get the balls over the hedge.

Nathan has been up and running since Tuesday, but we decided to keep him at home for another two days, to ensure full recovery. Ever since he has been in the hospital last December, his immune system has trouble fending off anything heavier than the simplest cold. To try and up it, we will stay off the antibiotics (unless there is some real danger) because to my feeling doctors still prescribe it too often just to be on the safe side. For example, when the doctor came to see Elias on Monday, a student was accompanying him. She checked his ears, throat and nose. He had a 39+ degree celsius fever, yet no other issues at that moment. When the doc asked what she would prescribe she said without hesitation: antibiotics. To which our doc firmly replied that such was not really necessary at this stage and a simply syrup would suffice. Anyway, Nathan's off them, and I hope it'll be a while before he gets very ill again.

Today we heard that there's another virus doing the rounds at kindergarten, so I'm not sure how he will respond to that.
