Nathan was ok, we were told by an expert. He weighs 7.750kg and measures 70.5 cm. The latter means he grew 1.5 cm over the last month, which is less than expected, but no cause for worrying. He does not yet sit up well, but that runs in the family. Otherwise everything was fine.
Nathan checked out ok, this morning. Thus far, the pediatrician found nothing wrong with him: he is alert, responds well to stimuli, and is generally quite happy. The only possible explanation she had right now, was that Nathan is not getting enough calories out of Veerle's milk. So we need to check how much he drinks by weighing before his meal and afterward, a few times today. We also need to give him an extra 20 to 30 ml with a spoonful of Nestle Caloreen. We need to check his weight again after this weekend. His head circumference was measured at 41 cm.
This morning, Nathan had his 3-month examination at Kind & Gezin. They forgot to measure his head circumference, but he's now 64.5 cm tall, and weighs 5.700kg. So he's underweight. He has not significantly gained any weight in the last month. The doctor did not find anything abnormal, but we made an appointment with our pediatrician anyway. So tomorrow Nathan will face another examination. And he should get his (obligatory in Belgium) vaccinations as well.
Nathan took his SIDS test yesterday. Veerle checked in with him at about 18:45. However, the test could not start until Nathan finished his meal around 20:30. The nurse hooked him up with a lot of wires to the computer. What I noticed in particular was the fact that they did not use a net to keep everything in place, as they did in the hospital we took Elias for testing when he was six weeks old.
Nathan is almost four weeks old, so it was time to have him checked again. He weighs 4.380kg (after eating, so you can subtract 100g; yesterday he weighted 4.270kg, though two meals later), measures 55.5 cm, and has a head circumference of 37.5 cm. I think they missed last time, because he was 55.5cm then as well, and I cannot imagine him not having grown over the course of two weeks. For the rest, he checked out fine.
